Benedict Lim, violin has been a scholar of Pettman National Junior Academy for eight years.
At age nine, Benedict won a Gold medal at the ‘International Young Musicians Festival’, organised by the American Association for Development of the Gifted and Talented and was invited to perform at the winners’ concert at Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall, New York. Shortly after, he was awarded 2nd prize at the ‘54th Kocian International Violin Competition’ in Czech Republic, as well as a special prize at the ‘19th Andrea Postacchini International Violin Competition’, Italy. Most recently, Benedict was awarded both the First Prize in his age group and the overall Jury prize at the ‘Concerto Auckland Young String Players Competition’ in March 2016.
Benedict has appeared as a soloist with Manukau Symphony Orchestra and Nelson Symphony Orchestra. He has also been featured in numerous solo and chamber performances at the annual International Akaroa Music Festival. He has received stellar public reviews for his recitals at the Chamber Gallery and performances at the Outstanding Young Musicians Lunchtime Concert Series at St Augustine’s in Christchurch.
Benedict has had masterclasses with several world-class violinists and pedagogues such as Natasha Boyarsky, Charles Castleman, Anthony Marwood, Ning Feng, Susie Park, and Sarah Chang.
In 2017, Benedict has been invited to perform with Anthony Marwood at the prestigious Peasmarsh Chamber Music Festival in East Sussex. He also was invited to be on an ensemble tour to the UK collaborating with Clio Gould, Stephen De Pledge, Edith Salzmann and Julie Park as a part of the Pettman Ensemble.
