OUR SUMMER SCHOOL

The International Akaroa Summer Music Festival returns from January 3rd – 11th 2026 with a vibrant program of masterclasses, individual lessons, ensemble coaching, and performance opportunities for tertiary and advanced pre-tertiary music students.

Over 10 immersive days, students will work closely with our international artists, gaining insight, inspiration, and invaluable performance experience. Daily lunchtime recitals, workshops, and public concerts create a rich and engaging atmosphere for learning and connection.

Summer School Schedule

  • 6 x solo instrumental lessons (45 minutes each)
  • ensemble rehearsals and coaching
  • workshops and masterclasses
  • Rehearsal with piano accompaniment in preparation for lunchtime concerts
  • Performance opportunities for both solo and ensemble repertoire.

Workshop

PIANO

  • Two workshops and one masterclass (two hours each), participation by invitation, led by Anna Goldsworthy

VOICE

  • Two workshops and one masterclass led by
    Teddy Tahu Rhodes and Stephanie Acraman

 

  • The masterclasses are open to university students, high school students, and primary school students.
  • At the discretion of the organisers, applicants may be asked to audition, either via video or in person.
  • Students under the age of fourteen must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • Passive participation as a listener is possible.

The festival consists of individual lessons, masterclasses and concerts.

The solo repertoire prepared for the courses should be submitted in writing by Monday, 1st of December 2025.

All active participants will receive free entry to any public concert organised by the International Akaroa Summer Festival 2026 during the Summer School (5th-11th January).

Summer School Course Fee Includes:

*The lecturers will decide who is participating in the concert and other ensembles.

APPLICATION INFORMATION

  • The application fee of NZD 80 and 50% of the course fee must be paid at the time of application.
  • The remaining 50% of the course fee is due no later than Wednesday, 31 December 2025.
  • In the case of unsuccessful applications, all fees will be fully refunded.
  • All applications must be received by Wednesday, 15 October 2025.
  • Late entries will only be considered if spaces are available.

REFUND POLICY

  • 100% refund if withdrawing before 30 November 2025
  • 50% refund if withdrawing before 15 December 2025
  • 25% refund if withdrawing before 24 December 2025
  • No refund after 24 December 2025

Note: We recommend that participants consider taking out travel and course fee insurance in case of last-minute cancellations.

OBSERVER PASS

  • Observer cards (NZ$30/day) can be purchased at the Festival Office, located at the Akaroa Area school, during the festival period.

 

The Akaroa Music Festival team is happy to assist with your accommodation needs.

Akaroa offers a wide range of excellent motels and hotels; however, please note that accommodation is in high demand during the summer season. For students attending masterclasses, the festival can arrange shared holiday house accommodation.

  • Cost: NZD 65 per night
  • Availability: Must be booked for the full duration of the Summer School (4-12 January 2026)
  • Payment: A NZD300 deposit is required upon booking, with the balance due alongside the final course payment
  • Location: All houses are within walking distance of Akaroa Area School.
  • If you would like the festival to arrange accommodation for you, please first check with IAMF to confirm availability. If places are still available, make sure to indicate your interest on the application form and deposit NZD 300 with your application. The remaining payment is due no later than Wednesday, 31 December 2025.
