Edith Salzmann
Edith Salzmann is a German–New Zealand cellist with an international career as a soloist, chamber musician, and teacher. She studied with the legendary Janos Starker at Indiana University after early training at the renowned Music Academy in Detmold, Germany.
She has performed in leading venues including the Berlin Philharmonie, Barbican Centre London, Tonhalle Zürich, and Cologne Philharmonie, collaborating with artists such as Heinz Holliger, Menahem Pressler, Nobuko Imai, Clio Gould, and Hansjörg Schellenberger. Her recordings appear on labels such as Naxos, EMI Germany, Atoll, and Rattle.
A passionate teacher, Edith has held senior academic positions in New Zealand and Australia, and currently teaches at the University of Adelaide where she also directs the Open Music Academy.
Since 2005 she is the artistic Director of the NZ Pettman National Junior Academy, a privately funded national pre-tertiary scholarship programme and she is the artistic Director of the International Akaroa Music Festival.
